April 18, 2018 (San Diego) – East County’s San Diego Festival Chorus presents its spring concert on April 29th with Rutter’s “Requiem” and songs from “West Side Story” and “The Wizard of Oz”.
The “Requiem” comes from the Englishmen, John Rutter. It is a contemporary masterwork, a beautiful, simple requiem with an appeal to all who hear it.
From the amazing team of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim comes “West Side Story,” an American musical that reflects issues of race and class in America’s 50s and 60s. “The Wizard of Oz” story comes from the famous book and the delightful, singable songs from the 1939 movie of that name. These two are recent choral arrangements and share the enduring theme of American hopes and dreams.
The Chorus is in its 18th season performing classical and popular music in the same program. Its Winter concert last December featured the “Messiah” and drew an audience of 1,350!
