CHRISTMAS TREE SAFETY TIPS FROM CAL FIRE

Printer-friendly version

December 2, 2009 (San Diego)– Christmas trees bring  beauty to many homes during the holiday season.  But they can also become fire hazards, turning holiday joy to tragedy if safety precautions are not followed.  (View a video  posted at YouTube to see just how fast a dry tree will burn.)

CAL FIRE offers the following tips to help keep your Christmas season joyful–and safe.

  • Never place candles on the Christmas tree.
  • Avoid placing your tree near the heater or other appliances.
  • Keep the tree in water, a dry Christmas tree will burn with incredible speed, a room can be engulfed in flames and smoke in moments.

Be fire-safe, not sorry!
