PAINT THE TOWN: ARTISTS WANTED TO BEAUTIFY DOWNTOWN EL CAJON

Printer-friendly version  July 13, 2009 (El Cajon)–The El Cajon Community Development Corporation (El Cajon CDC) is looking for artists to turn unattractive utility boxes into works of art through the Utility Box Art Program (UArt).  Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on July 30th.   Painting of the utility boxes was begun several years ago by the former City of El Cajon Arts & Culture Commission. The “paintbrush” has now been passed to the El Cajon CDC. Both residents and passersby by seem to respect the improvements, and areas with painted utility boxes have fewer incidents of litter and graffiti than areas where they have not been painted, El Cajon CDC reports. Those artists selected to participate will have their signed work mentioned in press releases, featured on the El Cajon CDC website, in their e-newsletter, and in promotional material.   To participate in beautifying downtown El Cajon, call Christina Burke at (619) 401-8858, e-mail her at Christina@downtownelcajon.com, stop in at the El Cajon CDC office at 168 East Main Street or visit www.downtownelcajon.com and click on “Arts & Culture” for an application details.     Printer-friendly version
