WILL POWER: ULTERIOR MOTIVES

Printer-friendly versionNothing but the Truth! June 21, 2009–As California lurches towards insolvency, the supply-siders who wrecked the system now propose to turn over the state’s assets to private parties. The most valuable and scenic properties, the California State Parks, are now going to be rented out for private “management”. It’s the first step towards selling them outright to developers. LA MESA TO CONSIDER HELPING NON-CITY GROUPS FUND FIREWORKS & OTHER CAUSES TO BENEFIT AREA RESIDENTS

Printer-friendly versionJune 21, 2009 (La Mesa) –On Tuesday, June 23, at 3 p.m. La Mesa’s City Council will hold a joint special meeting with the La Mesa Community Redevelopment Agency and La Mesa Public Financing Authority. Staff will present a recommendation urging Council to approve the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 budgets. Council will also consider a possible rule change regarding travel funds as well as a proposed resolution to fund outside organizations that sponsor events benefitting La Mesa residents. The City has received a request for $4,500 annually to help fund the Lake Murray Music Fest and Fireworks Show. This year, the show remains in jeopardy due to a shortage of community donations, Navajo Events organizers have told East County Magazine. In addition, San Diego East Visitors Bureau has requested $8,000 for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the East Council Economic Development Council has asked for $5,000 for each fiscal year. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 8130 Allison Avenue, La Mesa. Printer-friendly version

WILL POWER REPORT: RFID AND THE ELECTRONIC NAZIS

Printer-friendly versionNothing but the Truth! June 14, 2009 — The implantation of tiny RFID (radio frequency identification devices) devices on practically anything has been promoted as “anti-shoplifting” and “inventory control”. But did you all new cars will soon be equipped with an RFID device so accurate that the government will be able to track you car everywhere you drive and at all hours? What’s worse, these RFID devices will soon be used to make drivers pay tolls to drive on all freeways. As soon as you cross an electronic gate, you will be running up charges that will probably go on your credit card. And if Junior borrows the car to go joy-riding, no worries- you will still have to pay. RFID devices will simplify taxation of sales as well. Suppose the state wants to impose a value-added sales tax so people cannot resell personal property without paying a secondary sales tax on their used property. With RFID devices inside nearly every product, the sate could make you pay for selling your used computer or TV set. RFID tags inside clothing or shoes could make personal privacy a thing of the past. Step across an electronic threshold and go into a mall. You shoes have chips which identify you, or at least your shoes and the time they were shopping. RFID labels are now made of printable ink, which means they can be stuck on the labels of your clothes. Conceivably, people who buy used clothing at the Good Will could set off alarms by going into banks wearing mismatched RFID labels. RFID labels are already put into tires. Car parts are not far behind. Conceivably, the government could call up by computer an inventory of everything you own. And if your possessions do not match your tax return, look out! Finally, RFID devices make cash sales as easy to track as credit card sales. Does your money have RFID? You betcha, so when you buy some illegal substance don’t think paying cash is protection. The RFID Gestapo is watching you! They are so much more dangerous than Big Brother! Printer-friendly version

PEARLS: THE UNEMPLOYMENT CIRCUS

Printer-friendly versionBy Charlavan Hart I made a bold attempt today to find out some answers for a great many people right now about unemployment checks. It always seems to be a mystery that is unsolvable. Even though you are given a number to call for answers, it is ALWAYS busy. You are sometimes given an estimate on wait time but most often now, the recording tells you to call on another day. June 2009 (San Diego’s East County)–Even though this varies slightly with each state, the basic premise is the same. Just imagine what a task it has been for these state agencies to try to keep pace with the need right now. They have put on extra help, increased their hours to 7:30 – 5:30 instead of 8:00 to 5:00. That didn’t help enough so they also now are open from 10:00 to 1:00 on Saturday. That still isn’t enough when they are dealing with 7 times the amount of people they used to. But they are working at it. They have added another line. In California the new information number to check on your check or claim is 866 333 4606. The original and still workable one (even though busy) is 800 300 5616. There is a one week waiting period from the time you lose your job until you are able to file for unemployment insurance. The best and most current method is online www.edd.ca.gov and you can actually reach them by email thru “contact”. But they will encourage you to read the “Tip Sheets”. There are a lot of answers there and they are current. If you don’t have a computer, remember you can always go to the public library and use one there. You can even apply for your own email address there as well. California residents are qualified for a third reinstatement of their claim. This state qualifies because the unemployment rate is more than the national average (10.5%). It is automatic after your second one expires and you are to receive a letter in the mail with your final check if you are qualified. There will be a few restrictions but none that you can’t overcome. This unemployment insurance is not affected by the state budget problems since it is funded by employer’s insurance. So even though the state of California is in crisis, these checks are not part of that problem. This info is per the unemployment office by a call I received this morning after I told them just yesterday I was writing an article. Printer-friendly version

SIMPLE WISDOM: ARE YOU SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED?

Printer-friendly versionBy Penelope Andrade   June 2009 (San Diego)–Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? If you’ve got some chronic ‘itis’ like sinusitis, dermatitis, cystitis, gastritis, colitis, arthritis, thyroiditis or other ongoing physical aggravation, chances are something you are doing is making things worse. This could be something as simple as not taking medications/ herbs /remedies properly or as complex as poor self care – too much sugar, fat, alcohol, processed food, TV, Internet or too little sleep, sex, exercise and real leisure. No joy in love or work may also be a factor. While figuring out how you’re making yourself sicker is the first step, changing your life is the real challenge. Here’s the tip. Check if you’re ready to honestly assess your lifestyle. If no, you won’t even see the solution. If yes, consider that you already know the answer. Sit in silence. Listen for guidance. Watch your dreams. If still stymied, ask a spouse or friend for an honest opinion. Once you know what you need to do, tell someone you trust. Be gentle and patient with yourself and ask them to do likewise. Bad habits usually develop from misguided attempts to regulate stress or manage uncomfortable feelings. Find support for emotional healing. Don’t attempt giving up old ways until you’ve found nourishing replacements. Start small. Try one tiny change that really makes you feel good. Take your time and watch as slowly, surely you take back your life.
