Diablo Canyon used bad data for safety equipment for 30 years[4]

(CalCoast News) — Correspondence from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission — released by Sen. Boxer in a recent hearing and reported Sunday on Page 1 of the San Francisco Chronicle (PDF) — shows that since Diablo Canyon’s first reactor came online in 1984, PG&E failed to use updated seismic and loss-of-coolant-accident data, known as LOCA loads, for replacement equipment. /  Failure of such equipment in an earthquake could lead to a catastrophic release of radiation.

Since emerging last year in the Middle East, a mysterious virus has infected at least 132 people and killed 58. But it’s still unknown how people get infected. A genetic analysis now suggests that animals may have repeatedly infected people with the deadly virus.

Boston Hospitals Share Lessons From Marathon Bombing[6] (NPR)

Every victim who arrived at a hospital alive survived the attack. But hospitals say the experience also revealed room for improvement, and they’re about to share the lessons they learned at a national conference in Washington, D.C.
