East County residents, business owners share resolutions — plus tips for making some offbeat resolutions of your own

January 9, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) –If you’re procrastinating making your New Year’s resolutions, here are a few points to ponder.

Maybe traditional resolutions such as slimming up don’t fit if you’ve already got a hard-driving Zumba instructor or you’re in such great shape that strangers post YouTube videos of you out dancing. So think outside the box. Resolutions do not always have to be standard. They could encompass things like:

I will have all my friends perform their Charger tricks and superstitious rituals before their next play-off game and next season. This includes excluding any family members who bring a hex to them by watching the TV, only wearing Charger socks not the jersey, and performing any rituals in your house that you “know” help them win.
I won’t unfriend every FaceBook friend who goes a little crazy in a thread or post. Toleration. Besides, those posts provide different perspectives. And FaceBook should automatically block posts that are abusive and have bad “physical” content messages sent to users.
I’ll overcome shyness. During meet and greet, hug that big, handsome guy in church who always smiles when I look his way. If he shakes my hand with two hands not one, it could be a celestial sign that love is on the way in 2014.
I won’t use freeway shoulders or on/off ramps to dodge traffic –or weave my motorcycle between lanes just to get someplace faster. Patience beats becoming a CHP highway statistic.

If you don’t have any resolutions, does that mean you know human nature well enough to know the resolution might not last?

East County resolutions

I asked several East County residents and business owners to share their resolutions and views on the coming year. Here are the questions I posed, and their replies.

Christel Pfeifer, owner of Sausage & More European Delicatessen in Lakeside (photo, top left), says her resolution is to “live healthier.” She looks forward to “going to Germany for a 600 guest wedding.”

Bruce Marshall, owner of the Bow N Arrow Shop in Lakeside (photo, top left), says he didn’t make a resolution. He looks forward to “the future, health and happiness.” He added that the best thing about post-holiday sales is “knowing that there is going to be more archers in the sport.”

Santee resident John Howard says he is also looking forward to going to Germany in 2014 on a musical tour. Howard is a conductor.

El Cajon resident, Linda David, looks forward to “prosperity for my five children.”

Whatever your New Year’s resolution may be, we wish you success in keeping it!
